The song of "Dixie" is not racist and was written by Northerners. The lyrics are clean and are about the Old South and its nostalgic beauty. Why has it been banned from playing and hated? I personally think it is a beautiful song and it sends chills down my spine every time I listen to it.

Because of the many racist things people have done in the past and the present, while waving the Confederate flag.
As I told someone else on Quora many months ago. If you are that upset by how people view your flag, then you should be out there at every BLM protest with your Confederate flag and a sign that reads
"I am a person who believes in Southern heritage AND the fact that Black Lives do Matter"

The song is considered racist because of the imagery it invokes and time period it gained popularity, exactly when the Southern states seceded.
"Dixie" was written in New York, by a native of Ohio, Daniel Decatur Emmett, as a minstrel song, which were primarily written to be performed by white actors in blackface. In fact, at the time he wrote "Dixie," Emmett was working for an all-white performance company which almost exclusively performed in blackface.
Most of us think of "Dixie"as the anthem of the Confederacy. Actually, at first, it was very popular in the North. Minstrel-style songs just weren't as popular in the South. When South Carolina became the first Southern state to secede in 1860, the song was just starting to reach the South.
The newly formed Confederates rejected their old nation's anthems, like "Yankee Doodle Dandy," and were looking for replacements.
